Stop the Islamic Republics propaganda – No Al-Quds day!

Annually, an ideological march is organised in Teheran by the "Islamic Republic of Iran" to celebrate the so-called Al-Quds day. At the same time, demonstrations are organized by Hezbollah in Beirut and by Hamas in Gaza, and the fundamentalist ideology of the Islamic Republic is propagated by rallies taking place worldwide. During the Al-Quds demonstration in Berlin, demonstrators have repeatedly made use of symbols pertaining to terrorist organisations.

Panel discussion: „Antisemitism and Persecution of the Bahá'í in the Islamic Republic of Iran“

Audio documentation of the event with Prof. Dr. Ingo Hofmann, Javad Asadian, Jörg Rensmann and a greeting by Lala Süsskind, Head of the Jewish Community in Berlin:

October 29, 2009, 20 a.m.

Location: Berlin, Filmbühne am Steinplatz, Hardenbergstr. 12 (U/S Zoologischer Garten)

The Bahá'í community in particular has been massively persecuted and threatened by discrimination, show trials, cemetery desecrations, and assaults. Similarly with Iran’s ancient Jewish community. Though some assure us that the community is safe, on closer examination its situation within a regime that makes frequent threats to “wipe Israel off the map” is in fact a great deal more precarious than depicted.

The major significance and danger of the regime’s intolerant ideology came vividly to light in the current crisis, not only in the ways the Iranian media and militia whipped up a pogrom-like atmosphere, but also in the ways the Iranian liberation movement is denounced as “Zionist” or “controlled by the Bahá'í.”

Panel:

Prof. Dr. Ingo Hofmann, since 2005 commisioner for foreign affairs of the Bahá'í community in Germany and its spokesperson for human rights violations. In this context his focus lies on the oppression of the Bahá'í in Iran. Professor Hofmann is physicist and teaches and researches at the University Frankfurt.

Javad Asadian, writer and political scientist, former president of the exile Iranian PEN-Club, Berlin.

Chair:
Jörg Rensmann

July 14 2009: How dangerous is the Iranian nuclear program?

University Halle: Panel discussion with Dr. Matthias Küntzel, Dr. Frederek Musall, Prof. Dr. Ralf Elger and Jonathan Weckerle.

„The timebomb ist ticking. Will the international community still be able to prevent Iran's reach for the bomb? Berlin is especially in the front line of this conflict: Germany has together with the five veto powers of the Security Council been entrusted to lead the negotiations with Iran and has a special responsibility to confront a regime that denies the Holocaust. At the same time Germany is still the by far most important trade partner and the prefered partner for dialogue of the Mullahs in the West."

Anti-Semitism in Germany - A Central Challenge for State and Society

Panel discussion on May 24 2009 at 11.00 am at the Centrum Judaicum, Oranienburger Straße 28-30, 10117 Berlin.

Speakers are MP Kristina Köhler (CDU), Secretary of State (ret.) Klaus Faber (Coordination Council of German NGO’s against anti-Semitism) and Jörg Rensmann (Mideast Freedom Forum Berlin).

Anti-Semitism has consolidated in Germany at a high level. There are indicators for a significant growing attendance to express anti-Jewish resentments publicly.

New forms of hostility towards Jews have just recently come out, whereas particularly the hostility against Israel or the anti-Zionist anti-Semitism is to be emphasized. Anti-Semitism is not only to be found along with radically right-wing political actors, left anti-Zionists and "anti-imperialists". It is also an important motive of Islamism. Who are the supporters of this delusional world view in Germany? Have civil society and scientific institutions reacted adequately to the new and old challenges up to now? What could a promising strategy be?

The panel discussion about these and other relevant questions of the context takes place in cooperation with Scholars for Peace in the Middle East – German section (SPME), the Mideast Freedom Forum Berlin (MFFB), the Jewish Forum for Democracy and against anti-Semitism (JFDA), the Coordination Council of German NGOs against anti-Semitism and Honestly Concerned. The panel discussion is moderated by Ulrike Becker of the campaign Stop the Bomb.

Movie and Text on the Occasion of the International Women’s Day on the 8th of March

„The Liberation Movement of Iranian Women – Year Zero“

A Historical Document from Iran on the Occasion of the International Women’s Day on the 8th of March

By Fathiyeh Naghibzadeh

On the 7th of March 1979, only weeks after the revolution in Iran, Ayatollah Khomeini ordered that women should only be allowed to enter public buildings dressed with a headscarf. After this – and on the occasion of the International Women’s Day on the 8th of March that year - there were numerous demonstrations against mandatory veiling. As a direct result of these demonstrations, the Islamists were forced to rescend their order, if only temporarily.

„The Liberation Movement of Iranian Women – Year Zero“ is the title of a film made by women of the French Politics and Psychoanalysis Group in 1979 in Iran. The film sought to convey the message of these Iranian women: „Freedom is neither an eastern nor a western concept – it is universal“.

"30 Years Islamic Republic Iran - The results of the Islamic revolution and the Western policy"

Lecture and discussion with Amir Taheri (journalist and author, London)

Date: Wednesday, March 4 2009, 8 p.m.
Venue:
Werkstatt der Kulturen, Wissmannstraße 32, Berlin-Neukölln, U7/U8 Hermannplatz, Map.
Simultaneous translation will be available

30 years of Islamic Republic of Iran stand not only for dictatorship and terror, but also for 3 decades of failed Iran policy of the West. While the tyranny in Iran – the persecution of the opposition, women, independent labor unions, religious and ethnic minorities – continues, the enforced nuclear program makes the regime an daily growing international threat. Atomic weapons would not only pose an existential threat to Israel, but would also lead to an arms race in the crisis-ridden Middle East and would strengthen radical Islamic forces worldwide. The extensive Iranian support for Hamas and Hizbollah already aims at the annihilation of Israel and the spreading of the Islamic revolution.
