The German Islam Conference (DIK), initiated 12 years ago by the then Interior Minister Wolfgang Schäuble, is the Federal government's central forum for the dialogue of the German state with Muslims in Germany. The fourth phase of the Islam Conference will start in late November 2018. While up to now mainly large Islamic umbrella organizations have been involved, in the fourth phase also individuals are involved, who engage themselves outside the large umbrella organizations.

Some of the Islamic associations in the German Islam Conference are under foreign influence. One of them is the DITIB Association, which is under the oversight of the “Directorate of Religious Affairs” or “Diyanet”, an official institution of the Turkish State. Another association is the “Islamic Community of Shi'ite Communities” (IGS). According to the German government this association is under “extremist influence” while its chairman belongs to the "political religious establishment of the Islamic Republic of Iran".

With our guests we want to discuss the following questions: Which Islamic partners do we need for the promotion of democracy? What kind of dialogue supports democracy? What influence do radical regimes have on Muslims in Germany?
