West German-Egyptian relations in the post-war period in the shadow of National Socialism

Book launch and Book Release Party!

Presentation of Ulrike Becker's doctoral thesis: "Nazis on the Nile. West German-Egyptian relations in the post-war period in the shadow of National Socialism" (in german)

Historical research has shown that the Third Reich broadcast a massive, nationalist and anti-Semitic radio propaganda campaign in the Arab countries. In order to weaken the wartime enemy, Great Britain, the Germans fuelled anti-Semitism and hatred of Zionism in Arab societies. What has remained of this ideology and policy in the post-war period? Ulrike Becker's work examines the personal, political and ideological continuities that existed and the extent to which these characterised German-Egyptian relations in the post-war period. The focus is both on the German Nazis who went to Egypt to make a career there as military advisors or in the arms industry and on the question of the extent to which ideological views on Zionism and the Middle East conflict influenced the policies of the German government.

Becker will present her doctoral thesis at the Programmschänke Bajszel on 28 March 2024, 7:30 pm.
